An initial assessment is essential to determine the needs of the client. Integrative Counseling utilizes a structured interview to assess the needs of the client.
While the initial assessment sets the direction for initial counseling, assessment is an ongoing part of counseling. It is essential to be open and honest during your assessment. If you are concerned about confidentiality, talk with your assessor during the assessment. As a therapist and client learn more about each other, a reassessment or change in direction may be necessary.
Don’t be surprised if your counselor comes up with a different diagnosis or idea than another therapist or doctor. It is very common for different professionals to attribute different perspectives to an issue. If this happens to you, discuss it with your therapist or doctor. Sometimes people fit in more than one place. More than one perspective is often helpful to resolve most issues.
