Mr. Shannon Garrett is a Licensed Social Worker and a Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor. He graduated from the University of Maryland School of Social Work in 1997 and continues to be excited about the opportunity to help people find their way in recovery. He has experience treating substance use disorders, depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, ADHD or when life just seems to generally suck.
“Come on in, have a seat, maybe a cup of coffee. Let’s talk about it and work together to try and figure out a way to help you recover and start feeling better.”
He has been working in the field since 1991 in various capacities. Shannon was first employed as a crisis intervention counselor at a residential treatment facility in Baltimore Maryland. He quickly moved into a case management position and assisted the facility in developing, implementing, and facilitating an outpatient continuum of care for adolescents, young adults and their families struggling with addiction. Mr. Garrett assisted the facility in developing, implementing and facilitating an Outpatient Mental Health Clinic to efficiently serve clients struggling with both substance use and mental health disorders. Shannon worked with an adult population in Frederick, MD for several years, where he facilitated an Intensive Outpatient Program and met individually with clients suffering from co-occurring substance and mental health disorders. He has served as a field instructor for the Social Work department with the University of Maryland and Morgan State University, assisting in the training of new social workers. Shannon has been the clinical coordinator for several research studies in cooperation with SAMHSA (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration), CTN (Clinical Trials Network) and NIDA (National Institute on Drug Abuse). He has worked as a master trainer for the ATTC (Addiction Technology Transfer Center), where he travels to train clinicians on evidenced based treatment approaches in Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Transtheoretical Stages of Change, Engagement, Adolescent Treatment Approaches and Medically Assisted Treatments. Mr. Garrett has spent 25 years establishing a series of experiential activities to help people have some fun in treatment. I hope you get the chance to play his Recoveropoly game. He is actively in long term recovery since 1985 and knows that recovery is possible.
